I just wanted to say “Thank you” to HMFCU, for your professionalism, courtesy, friendliness, and partnership over the last decade! My wife, Jenny, and I began banking at HMFCU about 10 years ago. At that time, we were newly married, with no children. A lot has changed over the last several years. We have now been married for almost 13 years, have 4 children, and have lived in our house for almost a decade. In that time, we have taken out car loans through HMFCU, paid them off, taken out a second mortgage, paid it off, refinanced our house, and taken out another second mortgage. The loan process has always been easy, and Sue has been fantastic to work with every time!

 

About 2 years ago, someone recommended that I try another credit union, primarily because they were promising lower interest rates. I moved my first mortgage to that credit union, but I kept all other banking at HMFCU. The difference between the 2 institutions has been striking! The other credit union promised a very low mortgage interest rate, if I moved all banking from HMFCU to that credit union, but Jenny and I decided to go with a slightly higher interest rate, on a recent second mortgage, just to stay with HMFCU. We did this because of how we are treated at HMFCU. Even though our credit scores are, fortunately, both very high, the other credit union has treated us coldly and with suspicion. Reading all of the news about increasing fees from banks, we are glad to be with HMFCU.  No monthly fees for us for life and free checks, too!  And it is nice to be known and feel like HMFCU is there to serve our needs and the community rather than be driven by profits. Our membership in the Holston Methodist Federal Credit Union has spanned most of the 35 years of our marriage. I remember calling Virginia Hankins and asking for a HMFCU loan to allow us to improve our home. In those pre-regulation days, the check would be in the mail before we even filled out the papers! We were so grateful for the assistance and security that the credit union provided for us as we raised our children and managed the money we earned, which was not always sufficient in supply to match the demands for it! I have been a member of Holston Methodist Federal Credit Union since 1986, joining when it was located at Asbury Acres.  HMFCU has been a blessing to me and my family ever since.  The staff has always been friendly, gracious and helpful when I have had a need and called on them for help.  The Credit Union (via Janet Tidwell) was a huge lifesaver when we experienced water damage in our home that required the entire kitchen and living room to be gutted and replaced, which took 3 months.  There were some expenses that our homeowners insurance did not cover and we came up short and a bit anxious.  One call to Janet eased our anxiety and helped us cover those expenses with ease.  There have been other times in which we have received counsel from the Janet, Sue, and others.  I am extremely proud to be a member of MY Holston Methodist Federal Credit Union.  Sue Lynn Johnson, January 2011 

David and I have been members of the Credit Union for over 30 years.  They have helped us in so many ways, but there is one event that stands out in my mind. We were visiting our son in St. Louis, MO, over the 4th of July weekend.  On that Saturday we were using our Credit Union Master Card to check out of the hotel.  It was declined.  We insisted that it was good, and they tried again.  Again it was declined.  Fortunately I had Janet's cell number in my phone.  I called her and found out that before we left town they had tried to notify us that our credit card had been compromised and was therefore deactivated.  Janet stepped in, talked to the hotel clerk, and charged our stay on the Credit Union account.  When we had a new account number this charge was transferred to our account.  What bank could you call on a holiday weekend and get this kind of service?  None that I know of!  Thank you Holston Methodist Federal Credit Union for taking care of us and many others!

When it's time to make a deposit, to make a transfer, a withdrawal or to get a loan, I go to "my credit union." The key word there is "my." I became a member of the credit union by buying shares in the form of a deposit. When I walk in the door, I am greeted by name. I have a teller who knows me and my family and our accounts and takes great care in meeting our needs. My personal home and my youngest daughters car were purchased through the credit union. Holston Methodist Federal Credit Union has been important to 3 generations of our family for many years.  When we, as a clergy family, were moving around the conference, having access to a constant financial institution was really good for us. No matter what size community we lived in, we had people that we were familiar with to call about savings and checking accounts, loans, or credit cards.    Then when our children were in college and buying their first car (ok, we were helping them buy their first car), we called the credit union and Sue or Judy would help us with the paperwork for getting a loan. And as young adults living in other states, both our son and daughter continue to take advantage of some of the services of HMFCU. Several years ago when my mother decided it was time to sell her house and we wanted to buy it for retirement, we were guided by staff at HMFCU through the process of engaging a reputable mortgage company through which we were able to acquire a loan for the purchase of our first home.   Finally, my mother has been pleased with the personal service and good rates she has found at HMFCU for help in protecting parts of her retirement income.   Our family appreciates the personal attention and the professional treatment we receive at OUR credit union. Oh, and by the way: being among those who are over 60 years old, we recently read an AARP article in which credit unions in general were being very favorably compared to traditional banks. And I think that writer is right on the money!  Celia Ferguson, July 2010

My family has been a member of the Holston Methodist Credit Union for 18 years. During this time, they have helped us in many ways and been so accommodating and helpful with several of our financial needs. In the beginning of our relationship with HMFCU, Janet was most helpful in consolidating debt and helping us get on track with a home equity line of credit and Sue is always helpful with car loans and this is especially helpful when buying a used vehicle. With four drivers in the family, there is always a vehicle issue to be addressed. What makes banking at the Credit Union special is you are known by name and they make it simple to get your questions answered and so helpful in many financial matters. I highly recommend the Holston Methodist Federal Credit Union to you and it has been a part of our family now for a long time. I love HMFCU and their staff. Lou and I have been members so long I cannot remember when we started. They have always been there for us and the needs of our family. One of the things that I like about our credit union is that everything about your accounts are confidential and not even the staff knows anything about your account unless you request them to look at something. I had a bank one time that shared some of my information without my consent; that would never happen at HMFCU. Another thing that is great about HMFCU is that if there is a problem they will work with you to get it resolved. Twice someone has stolen my Master Card number and charged stuff to it. The last time the credit union called me and asked me to check my account. I did and found that someone had charged $1,700 at a gift shop in Australia (I've never been to Australia but would love to go). The credit union stepped in and took care of it for me and it cost me nothing!
